The residents of our region are served by public, K-12 school districts in the towns and cities of Hurley, Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield-Marenisco and Ewen-Trout Creek. In addition, students in the elementary and secondary grades have access to private K-12 through several religiously-affiliated schools and private home-schooling. Each of the school districts maintain a distinctive identity and can boast about a history of educational and co-curricular programs supported by their local communities. Students also may enroll in vocational programs in their home schools or at Gogebic Community College (GCC).

At the post-secondary level, the region is served by GCC, established in 1932 and providing educational programs and services for students whose plans include transfer to a four-year university or obtaining their first employment position in various occupations. GCC offers courses, workshops, certificates and degree programs in a wide variety of interest areas and works with regional businesses to create customized programs that build a more skilled workforce.
